Pearl Necklace Jewellery For A Special Occasion

People believe that wearing pearls on their wedding day will bring bliss to their marriage.

The one thing that comes to mind when thinking about wedding jewellery is pearls. So, how do you go about finding and buying the perfect pearl necklace jewellery.

The four types of pearls that are available are Freshwater, Southsea, Tahitian and Akoya. Akoya, Tahitian and South Sea pearls grow in oceans. The pearls that come from the sea are more valuable due to their rarity.

Akoya pearls are the most popular. These pearls are valued for their rich colour, mirror like finish, and appealing roundness.

The quality of the gemstones has an effect on its value.

A pearls quality can be A, AA, AA+, AAA, AAA+. If you have two pearls the exact same size, an “AAA” quality pearl would be much more expensive than an “A” quality pearl.

There are six criteria for the quality and value of pearls, they are nacre, luster, colour, surface, size and matching.

Nacre: Most buyers of pearl jewellery pay most attention to the pearls’ nacre thickness. The pearls nucleus has a coating which is produced by the oyster, it is this that is called the nacre. The nacre is the measurement for how long a pearl will last. Pearls that last longer usually havce a nacre thickness over 0.4mm.

Luster and Surface: Luster is the amount of light reflected from the pearl’s surface. A strand of pearls with high luster, mirror finish and clean surfaces is most desirable and valuable.

Colour: It is a personal choice. Consider buying a pearl necklace whose colour will complement your clothing and your skin tone.

Size: The price of pearls that are larger than 7mm varies greatly. People usually buy the largest pearls they can afford.

Shape: Pearls come in all shapes and sizes but it is the round ones which are the valuable ones.

Matching: When buying a pearl necklace jewellery set or similar the matching element refers to how well all the pearls in the jewellery match. The more pearls that match in a piece of jewellery or jewellery set the higher the price will be, down to the difficulty of finding matching pearls.

If you do not have enough in the budget it may dictate the kind of pearls you can buy. Do plenty of research on the internet as prices can vary hugely and make sure you find the very best your budget can provide.
