If You Get A Dog Be Sure You Train It Properly
Most children would love to have a dog and they plead with their parents to get one. A lot of kids parents can only think of all the trouble a dog could cause them. In the end the kids may win the argument but it takes a while for them to convince their parents.
Once you have made the decision to get a dog you must choose what breed you want to get. Having chosen the type of dog you would like you need to find somewhere to get it from and a lot of people feel the right choice is from the local dog rescue pound.
Often you will get your new puppy home and it will straight away make a mess. Suddenly you begin to understand you must start dog house training. Most dogs avoid messing near their beds because they are clean animals so show the right area for their potty to them.
Remember your puppy is young and new to your home, it doesn’t know what to do and will be nervous. Take your puppy to the potty area if it looks uncomfortable but give it lots of reassurance. If it does it’s business congratulate it and tell it what a good dog it is.
Most dogs are intelligent and can learn new things quickly but you need to practice to reinforce what they have learned. Accidents will happen and you must not get angry so try to be very patient with your puppy.
If your puppy needs to get to the potty area he should be able to easily reach it to be successful. If your puppy does things right tell him what a good dog he is and show him lots of affection to reward him. He will soon learn that he is popular when he goes in the right place and there will be fewer and fewer mistakes.
More training can follow once you have a house trained dog. Your kids will have a great time teaching your new puppy how to sit. Kids and dogs can both be very patient and will practice for hours.
You can move on to further advanced training with your dog once it understands commands like sit and stay. Walking to heel on a leash is an important lesson to teach your dog.
You don’t want a dog that suddenly runs off so teach it to ignore things it sees or smells.Your dog will want to run off and look at new things but it must understand that it must wait for your instruction.
Some people love dogs but not everyone does so you must train your dog not to jump up at visitors and strangers in the street. You may love the way your dog licks your face but not everyone will appreciate it.
Becoming a dog owner has rewards but also responsibilities and you take on the duty of care when you get a dog. Your dog must obey your commands so you can prevent it being a nuisance to other people. A well trained dog will behave properly around other people and animals and it will be a credit to you and your family.
