The New 2009 Hybrid Escalade is Cool
The Escalade Hybrid is the best way for environmentally conscious customers to get their luxury SUV with out sacrificing quality. The Cadillac Escalade Hybrid seats up to eight. It is the only full luxxury SUV with a two mode hybrid system on the market. The two mode hyrbrid powertrain in the Escalade Hybrid allows fifty percent better fuel economy than other conventional vehicles in city driving. It also allows at least a forty percent increase in fuel economy overall.
The 2 mode hybrid powertrain integrates the brand’s Vortec 6.0-L V-8 with GM’s EVT transmission. The Electronic Variable Transmission has 2 electric engines and 4 driving gears.The V-8 engine in the Hybrid has the brand’s Active Fuel Management System, allowing four-cylinders to shut off in light load conditions and ultimately conserving fuel.The gasoline engine shuts off at stops or when idoling but restarts when needed, while the electric motor allows the engine to run in a 4 cylider mode more often.
With light throttle, the electric motors can propel the New Cadillac Escalade up to 30 mph, but together the electric motor and gasoline engine produce 332 hp and 367lb.ft. of torque.Located under the second row seats lies a 300-Volt battery pack that powers all electric engines, the steering system, and the electrically driven air conditioning compressor. Regenerative braking also charges the batteries. Two or four wheel drive options are available for the Hybrid. But the hybrid powertrain is only available on the standard length Escalade.
As far as towing capability, the New Cadillac Escalade will be rated to tow up to 6000 pounds with rear wheel drive and 5700 pounds with all wheel drive. On the inside, the Escalade Hybrid has an 8-inch touch screen that showcases the hybrid drive system and informs the driver as to which mode the SUV is running in. There is a handy economy gauge in the Hybrid that lets the driver know which ‘zone’ to drive in to amplify mpg.To let the driver know whether their gasoline engine is off or on, the Cadillac Escalade Hybrid comes equipped with an Auto Stop reading on the TACH.
