What is Twitter? Twitter is a Social Media site that uses social interaction through the internet. Twitter is similar to sites such as Facebook or Myspace. these are just three of the more common social networking sites. Each site has it’s own demographics. Each site has it’s own uses as well as it’s own set of rules for use.

Twitter is basically a way for people to make friends and contacts through quick messages that always answers the question of what are you doing? There is a distinct difference between twitter and the other social networkings sites and that is the communication methods. Twitter only allows 140 characters of communication at one time. In other words you may only type in 140 characters of text at once per communication. In reality then you are simply sending out text messages to your friends and associates. These are called tweets. I know this all sounds very cute. But don’t let this fool you. Twitter is quite powerful and building a business on twitter is easier then people think.

I went to a seminar recently about social networking where one of the speakers had his laptop open and was conversing with his twitter following during the seminar. While the other guest speakers were speaking he was typing in what he was doing at the time. Do you think that is too high tech? Think again.
